25 Days of Christmas Tags - Day 18

Good morning!  I'm happy to be sharing another tag today.  Are you getting sick of me yet?  I sure hope not! :) Today's sponsor for the 25 Days of Christmas Tags is A Jillian Vance Design.

For today's tag I used tree dies from AJVD's Sweet Gingerbread Add On.  They have a really fun detail that adds a bit of dimension.  Mine were cut in white, and then I blended on some mowed lawn distress ink.  I wanted a little variegation in the colors, so I was heavier handed blending one of them. I mounted the trees on a Stitch Dot Circle, which also has really fun detail around the border.
I added a banner sentiment to finish off the focal point.  Now this is my favorite part....the tag base is not paper.  It is balsa wood.  I was a little nervous to cut it with a die because it is pretty delicate, but it worked perfectly, and I adore the way it looks.  I wish I could super size this tag and hang it on the wall or prop it up on our mantle all winter long.  It reminds me of the dimensional wood cut signs that are so neat.
ETA: A few of you have asked about the balsa wood.  I bought it at Hobby Lobby over a year ago, but I looked it up online and they still sell it.  It comes in several sizes, but the one I used was 1/16"x 6"x 36". It is super long, but very thin, so I easily cut off a piece with scissors and ran it through the die machine.  I think the important part of the dimensions is the 1/16" thickness.

Well friends, I'm so glad you visited today!  If you want some more inspiration, head on on over to Tracey's blog next.  You'll definitely find it there. :)

  3. This is fantastic. I wondered what the tag base was. At first glance it looked like a nice textured paper. Love the trees and the banner. [Bunny]

    1. Of course! It is a large sheet of balsa wood that I bought from Hobby Lobby. I think there were different sizes (I bought it more than a year ago), but the one I have is 1/16x6x36. It's really long! I just used scissors to trim off a portion and ran it through the die machine.
