Hello! I'm squeaking in just before bed to share a card. The sentiment on it is a bit ironic because it does not describe how I felt making it. I tried something new today. Those who know me well will understand what that means. It's incredibly hard for me to try something new, particularly something I'm not very good at. Always has been. And, though I've noticed it before, today I was made painfully aware that I have passed that trait down to my son. So as I tried to help him work through his fear, I decided that now was as good a time as any to work through mine. I think coloring is beautiful. I love it. I do not have a gift for it, though. I can remember when I was younger never being satisfied with how I colored in coloring books. I shy away from it in my cards. But I LOVE how it looks on others', So I allowed myself to try today. I started with no line coloring...that was a bit too much...and backed off to a watercolor something. I've done countless research studying cards and watching videos, but I'm definitely going to have to study more. Good thing I love looking at cards. :)
So dear Darnell, who is every inspiring me to use my NBUS (never-been-used-ssctuff), and is now inspiring me to try something new...this is for you. :) I'm linking it up to your
NBUS #8 Challenge, with my NBUS being some Zig Clear Color Markers. (PS, Darnell, in my big long comment on your blog I explained why I didn't do the coloring on kraft.)
And since this card took a lot out of me, I made another very similar card but much more in my comfort zone.
I used the same set (PTI's Peonies on Parade), but added a sentiment from Altenew's Beautiful Day (also NBUS on a card, I believe) and cut out a mat with MFT's Wonky Stitched Rectangle Dies, which are new to me as well. I'm so excited to actually own these dies after having used some die cuts given to me by a few of my 12 Kits of Occasions buddies over the last year or so.
I think this sentiment is wonderfully encouraging, so I think I'll leave it with you tonight as we head into the Sabbath...sending hugs and happy thoughts! :)
Ahhh...I know what you mean about trying something new. I have a hard time with that as well. I love both of your cards. The colors on the first are vibrant and cheerful - and amazing looking! Your second card is soft, serene and perfect too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards, Lindsey! I had to click on them to "enbiggen" them because I wanted to see the detail up close. I LOVE the camouflaged sentiment and your second card is CAS perfection!
ReplyDeleteI think I understand where you're coming from with your comment about peace (not), and I'm totally with you on that. However, I still love your coloring (lines or no lines) because I also feel out of my comfort zone. Guess we need to practice more. Beautiful cards, Lindsey, and pray you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteOh, you did a marvelous job with your coloring! Love the beautiful colors! Fabulous way to add the sentiment too. Now that you've taken a dip into the world of Zig markers you may be headed into a whole new area of creativity. I love to color so hope you have fun!!
ReplyDeleteYou are just so huggable, Lindsey! I enjoyed your comment and your email, especially the photos, and I'll get back to you soon! I'm delighted that you took the time (which I know is precious) to play in my NBUS Challenge #8 and I'm proud of you for tackling coloring! You did a beautiful job so I think you are too hard on yourself and I hope you will keep on doing more of it! (And just because it is so close to my next Challenge being posted tomorrow and so you don't see it and whack yourself on the head tooooo hard, I have to tell you now that the "hidden word" is my technique for next week! Sorry! Do you want to do another one?!) Blessings to you, my friend and lots of hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteLOVE that you stepped out of your comfort zone Lindsey, the results are beautiful! Pretty colors and flowers. Your second card is fresh and lovely too!
ReplyDeleteI clicked on the photo to have a closer look and I think your flowers look great, Lindsey!!!! The colours you have worked with are simply beautiful and I love the very fine ink splattering and where you have positioned the die cut sentiment!!!!! The second card is just as beautiful with the soft flowers and the lovely sentiment!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure one of these days you are going to master the art of colouring - but I think you are too hard on yourself and that your colouring is indeed just great already!!!!!
Sending hugz and happy thoughts!!!
Way to stretch yourself! I think it turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteOh, Lindsey, these watercoloured peonies are lovely ... the effect you created is so soft and ethereal ... perfect with the camouflaged peace.
