The 12 Kits of Occasions - Summer Fun!

Hello!  This is probably a bit shocking to see a new post from me.  As life would have it, shortly after my last post we've had one major health issue after another within our family and friends, including the passing of my grandmother.  Most of the cards I made I sent to my grandmother, and it's been a struggle to get back into making cards again.  But I am thrilled to be able to join my 12 Kits of Occasions friends today using a kit packed full of summer fun.
I decided to really embrace the "summer" part of this kit.  There were lots of cute patterned papers, and this particular one seemed perfect to use with The Stamp Market's Skinny Upper Alpha Dies, which I was anxious to try out.  I framed the card out with one of MFT's Stitched Rectangle Stax, and added this cute pineapple and hibiscus (from Papertrey Ink's Some Like it Hot set) that were also included in the kit.  Simple, but it makes me smile.
When I was making my first card, I layered some plain black letters under "SUMMER" to give it more dimension.  I ended up really loving my scrap piece of negative die cuts, so I trimmed it down and used it on the next card.
As soon as I opened my kit from the wonderful Birgit, I saw this cute flamingo and knew I had to use him.  He's also from PTI's Some Like it Hot. (Why don't I own this cute set?!) I popped him up on top of a trio of Echo Park's Palm Leaves, and used that fabulous negative scrap piece in the background.
Obviously I only scratched the surface of the kit here, but it felt good to dip my toes back in the cardmaking pool again.
You can see oodles more inspiration by my wonderful friends over on the 12 Kits of Occasions Blog.  Hoping you have a beautiful Sunday and a wonderful week!  Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Oh Lindsey, I wish I could just give you a great big hug! I'm so happy to see you finding time to make cards again. I totally "get it" because my mom was the biggest fan of my cards too and it was hard to get back into it after she passed. Both of your cards are so darling and so perfectly "YOU". I love how you used the negative space for the flaming card. It is totally gorgeous!! They're both gorgeous and I hope you find creating gets easier and more joyful with each card. Have a lovely summer and hope you enjoy good health for a long time. (hugs)

  5. So glad you found time and energy to create again Lindsey and how perfect was Birgit's FUN Summertime kit to get back into creating again?!! I know exactly what you mean about the struggle after your grandmother's passing when you used to send her so many cards...I had a dear, dear friend who had ALS and for the 2 1/2 years she lived with it I sent her a card every week! After she passed, I went through a period of not wanting to stamp at all because there didn't seem to be any reason to! I guess I just needed time to grieve, and I'm guessing that's what you needed too. But anyway, both of your cards are wonderful and definitely say SUMMER to me! And thank you again too for all your wonderful photography skills...I hope you know how much you're appreciated by me and all the other gals too! Wishing you a wonderful Summer Lindsy! Hugs! :0)

  12. It's wonderful to see your smiling face again, Lindsey! You've been missed, my friend! I'm terribly sorry to hear that your beloved grandmother is no longer with us in body, but you know she is with you in spirit, watching over you whenever you dip your toes in crafting. She knew how much you loved it and she'd want you to continue being creative and sharing that creativity with all of us! Just as you've done with these two brilliant designs from Birgit's Summery Kit! I love the way you used both your negative and positive alpha dies and how you've given your cards such pretty corsages to wear! I pray that all the other health issues of family and friends are resolved soon and sunny skies return to you and your sweet family! Hugs, Darnell
